About Our Friend Judge Leo Lydon |
|
Leo was the sixth of eight children, the fourth of five boys. He was raised in Dorchester and attended St. William's Grammar School, Don Bosco High School, UMass Boston, and Suffolk Law School. Sadly in November 2000, Leo tragically died in an automobile accident on his way to work as a judge at the Norfolk County Juvenile Court House. At the time of his death, Leo was an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Trial Court assigned to the Norfolk County Juvenile Court. He was appointed to the bench in 1999 after several years of work as an attorney in the juvenile court system. To say Leo was a devoted family man is an understatement. Although he never married, he was a devoted son, taking care of his aging parents, a dedicated brother to his siblings, and a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was very actively involved in the lives of the children of Savin Hill by coaching kids in various athletic activities. He devoted much of his time to ensuring that the youngsters of the neighborhood had the opportunities to enjoy various athletic activities. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at the former St. William’s Church, as well, he participated in missionary trips with members of St. William’s parish. Leo was also a very enthusiastic athlete. Leo’s loss was felt by so many of us. In remembrance of him and as a lasting symbol of recognition of all that he offered to us in Savin Hill, a clock in his name will be installed in front of the newly rebuilt Savin Hill T Station.
